Delaying gratification - the Marshmallow test

Here is what the test looks like:

click here to see the video

Remember they did this in a more scientific setting and followed the children who were able to wait before eating the marshmallow and followed the children who could NOT wait.   The children who waited did better academically than those who could not wait and ate it right away.

There is real life value in being able to postpone gratification

Some class requirements

No H.O.D's - Heads on Desk If I have to ask you too many times I will ask you to stand.

No L.U.A.D's - No lining up at the door We always try to go bell-to-bell but if we do end class early DO NOT line up at the door

Phones - Not allowed in the classroom That is the rule. Now I know many of you carry it in your purse or in your back pocket (that being the case) the phone must be off. DO NOT take out the phone to check the time - the classroom has a clock If you cannot read an analog clock I will stay after and help you learn to read an analog clock.
Folders - You will need a folder to keep ALL the handouts! and bring it to class each day we have class.
Ladies - No purses on the desk
Clock Buddies

Why health classes blog

Look to this blog and your class period for thoughts, reflections and ideas about the day's health classes.

Thursday, June 16, 2011

Purpose

So here is the plan:
Going to use this blog as a journal For example, if I have an A, B and C period health class I will write my reflections, important points, things that went well, things that did not go as plan etc. onto a blog posting for that day. Students can log into and read the blog and see what I thought about their class that day. They in turn can leave comments on what they thought of the class and whether or not they were able to meet the day's objectives, what worked for them, what did not work etc.
